And the Color of the Year is ...
Pantone's Color of the Year is always announced in December and is a symbolic color selection, or snapshot, of "what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood or an attitude." Not only is it symbolic, but it is also a nod to color trends and influences and how those colors are embraced by mainstream consumers in home interiors, fashion, technology and graphic design. It's a color that resonates with consumers and will become, and is becoming a favorite, most notably in transitional and contemporary design.
As fashion and interior design trends ebb and flow, shades of green are beginning to show up more and more. Shades of blue and specifically Navy Blue have been popular over the past year and will continue to trend in popularity for several years. But shades of green are beginning to resonate with homeowners because they are the hues of nature in both a soft gray-green and a green infused with a zesty yellow (spring green).
With the selection of "Greenery", Pantone is looking ahead to the shift in color preferences from blues to greens. Both are colors of nature, but with the long interest in Navy Blue, the shift toward green is a fresh color palette.
