The Value of a Good Installer
With so many decisions to be made before and during a kitchen remodel project, there is a critical component of the process that cannot be overlooked. Who is going to do the cabinet installation? A good cabinet installer is worth his or her weight in gold. Their skill and expertise can make or break the project, save you a lot of headaches and fix things that you may not want to even know about.
How the installation happens varies with the type of designer you are working with. Many design firms are just that, they will design and order the product and give you a list of installers that they have worked with. It’s up to you to make the decision on who will do the install. Other firms will have their own installation crews on the payroll and the whole project is sold as a package. Regardless of how you find an installer, how do you know if they are any good at what they do?
Ask to see examples of their work, look closely at the details. For example, are the miters on the corners of molding aligned and tight? Is the hardware on straight? Look at the toe kick cover, how did they finish the ends? If you happen to visit a work in progress take notice of the overall space, does it look organized? Do they take care of their tools or are they all over the place and not well maintained? These are easy things to spot and will speak volumes about who did the installation. If time and attention is spent on the details it’s a good bet that the overall installation was done right.
