Remodeling Stories: Updating a 1970s Fireplace
This 1970s era wood burning fireplace was woefully out of date and not very energy efficient. In fact, the entire space was in need of an update and this provided the perfect opportunity to make some drastic changes.
To maximize the space and take advantage of the lake views, this fireplace went on the move and ended up trading locations with the kitchen.
A wall that was dividing the house in half was removed and this allowed the new gas fireplace to be centered in the space. New windows, facing towards the lake, balance the room and provide additional light.
The cabinetry, flanking either side of the fireplace house the electronics and provide additional storage. A simple 3" high mantel caps the fireplace.
The updated space is warm and inviting. A far cry from the 70’s space that it once was.
