Remodel Story: Family Style Kitchen

Surrounded by beautiful vineyards, the home was ideal but the kitchen was cramped and inadequate to cook for and entertain a large Italian family.  With very little workspace and an oddly shaped island, there wasn't enough room for the moms, aunts, uncles, cousins and others to join in the cooking.

This young, modern family did not want the traditional "Tuscan/Mediterranean" look but wanted a more clean, transitional design instead that focused on family and the kitchen as a gathering place.  Brad McCarthy of The Cabinet Center, San Ramon, CA created a perfectly functional space with the exact design aesthetic they had in mind!

First, McCarthy focused on individual workspaces so that family members could work and mingle together in the kitchen without getting in each other's way.  The expansive, rectangular island was key in providing ample prep area and a serving surface, but also provides seating to encourage gathering and mingling while meal prep is underway.

Sleek Inset cabinetry by Dura Supreme was selected and each cabinet was placed and designed with a specific function in mind.  Utensil dividers, spice storage and pot/pan organizers near the cooktop keep everything situated conveniently close to the cooking zone.  The island itself has a prep sink in a central location, with a below-counter microwave for easy access.

Once the overall function of the space was planned, the aesthetic was transformed with beautiful Dura Supreme, Whilte painted, Inset cabinetry.  Custom stainless steel shelves create a segegated baking center and a stunning stainless steel hood arcs gracefully over the cooking center.
