A Modern Twist On Hickory
Due to its distinct grain pattern and wild color variations, hickory is typically used to create a cabin or rustic theme within a home. So, I wanted to create a design palette that included hickory in a more modern, updated look.
To create a modern updated look using hickory, I decided to use Dura Supreme's Mocha stain on the hickory cabinets. Adding a dark stain such as Mocha will temper the natural color variations of hickory but still allows the beautiful grain patterns to show. Next, I selected our Latte paint on maple/paintable to accent the hickory cabinetry.
After selecting the color palette for the cabinetry, I needed to find the perfect countertop to pull everything together. Sandalwood by Dupont Corian was the perfect choice. The different color variations within the countertop accentuate both the Mocha stain on hickory and the Latte paint on maple/paintable cabinetry.
The following computer generated renderings showcase how I would pull this entire color palette together. Notice how using the Latte paint on the Cottage Bead back of the open bookcase cabinet creates a beautiful focal point for the design and ties in the color of the island with the rest of the design. In addition, I used the Mocha stain as an accent in the island table by using this accent color just on the slatted floor of the table.
